History of AmericanAirlines Arena
The AmericanAirlines Arena opened on December 31, 1999 and its initial construction costs were $213,000,000. Two days later on January 2, 2000, the Miami Heat played their first basketball game in the new arena. As part of its sponsorship agreement with American Airlines, a giant aircraft with the American Airlines logo in the center was painted on the top roof of the arena which is visible to airplanes coming and going from Miami International Airport.
The arena is known for its unique scoreboard as it changes colors depending on the atmosphere.
