History of AT&T Park
Ground was broken on the stadium on December 11, 1997 and was completed a little over two years later. The stadium has 5,200 club seats, 68 luxury suits, and an additional 1,500 club seats at the field level behind home plate. The right field wall is the most prominent feature of the ballpark. The wall is 24 feet tall in honor of Willie Mays, a former Giant player who wore the number 24. In the past Giants sitting along the foul line would hold up rubber chickens whenever Giants players were walked, showing that the opposing team was “chicken” for not pitching to their players. In more recent seasons, fans held up “K” signs every time a Giants pitcher would strike someone out.
AT&T has a reputation as the most pitcher-friendly ballpark in the National League because of the depth of the outfield.
