History of The Bank of America Stadium
Ground was broken for the stadium on April 22, 1994. The stadium was completed a little over two years later. While deliberating on where the stadium site should be, there were many options they had to choose between including an area near NASCAR’s Charlotte Motor Speedway, the University of North Carolina, the intersection of I-85 and US 74, and also near Carowinds amusement park.
The stadium was originally known as Carolinas Stadium. Later known as Ericsson Stadium after LM Ericsson purchased naming rights for ten years. In 2004 Bank of America purchased naming rights for 20 years.
The Bank of America Stadium hosts several college football games. It also hosts soccer games along with several other concerts.
