History of Globe Life Park in Arlington

Ground was broken on the stadium on April 2, 1992. Globe Life Park in Arlington was completed almost exactly two years later on April 1, 1994. Funding for the new stadium was approved in 1991. the new stadium would be built a short distance from the old stadium the Texas Rangers were currently using. the stadium was opened with a contest between the Rangers and the New York Mets. The first official game was held on April 11 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Three accidents have occured since the stadium opened. Back on the opening day Holly Minter, while intoxicated was taking a picture and fell 35 feet over a railing fracturing several bones. Causing the team to raise the height of the railings. Back in 2010 Tyler Morris was leaning over the rail to catch a pop fly fell 30 feet causing a head injury and a sprained ankle. A year laterfirefighter Lt. Shannon Stone was attending a game with his son, when an outfielder threw him a ball, per his request. While trying to catch the ball he flipped over the railing and fell 20 feet. He was conscious while talking to the paramedics but died while driving to the hospital. The cause of death was blunt force trauma. Later that year Stone’s son threw out the first pitch in honor of his father.
