History of Lambeau Field

Ground was broken for the stadium on October 11, 1956, and was opened a little less then a year later. Since 1925 the Packers had played at a city stadium, behind East High School. By the 1950’s the stadium was inadequate for the times. In 1953 they built Milwaukee County Stadium hoping to please the Packers for the time being.

Other NFL owners threatened to move the Packers to Milwaukee unless they built a new stadium. In 1955 they announced plans to build a new stadium, which was approved. It was the first modern stadium built specifically for an NFL franchise. Many renovations have happened over the years to keep it up to date and up to par with demands.
