History of LP Field
Ground was broken on May 3, 1997. LP Field was completed a little over two years later. The construction process was delayed due to a tornado that struck the site. The Houston Oilers owner met with the Mayor of Nashville in 1995 discussing moving the team to Nashville. A year later the Nashville County approved partial funding for a new stadium. There were two conditions that had to be met after the stadium was built though, all Tennessee State University home games must be played there and the team must be named “Tennessee” instead of “Nashville”.
In 2012 LP Field underwent some new upgrades. These included high-speed elevators, a new sound system, and LED ribbon boards, which at the time of installation were the second largest score boards. (Cowboys stadiums were larger)
LP stadium is where the CMA Music Festival is held every year in June. On May 3, 2010 LP Field’s was covered in six feet of water due to flooding and heavy rains. The flood also reached the locker rooms in the stadium.
