History of MetLife Stadium

After 30 years of using the Giants Stadium, not only was it becoming one of the oldest stadiums in the NFL, but also was becoming run down. The Jets, who were the lesser tenant, were looking into building its own stadium in Manhattan.  Originally, they intended to build an 85,000-seat stadium, which was then downsized to 75,000 and then shut down all together. It was then that the Jets entered into a partnership with the Giants and built a new stadium splitting ownership equally.

Ground was broken for the new stadium on September 5, 2007 and was completed in 2010. Naming rights eventually went to MetLife, an insurance company, for 25 years.
