History of O.co Coliseum
Ground was broken on the center on April 15, 1964. It was completed a little after two years later. The stadiums field is actually below ground level, giving it an underground design look.
Oakland was constantly in competition with San Francisco and other neighboring cities. Oakland wanted to prove that it was a metropolitan area with a good reputation. During the 1950s and 1960s the idea of a major league stadium started becoming more and more realistic. Both the Oakland Raiders and the Oakland Athletics moved in to the stadium as soon as it as completed.
