History of The Ralph Wilson Stadium
The Buffalo Bills played their first thirteen seasons at the War Memorial Stadium, which was a minor league baseball park in downtown Buffalo. After a while the stadium became more rundown and was only capable of holding 47,000 people, which isn’t near enough for a NFL team.
Construction began on April 4, 1972 to build Ralph Wilson Stadium. N 1971 Rich Products signed a 25-year $1.5 million deal, by which the stadium would be called “Rich Stadium.” In 1976 Rich Products sued the owners of the stadium because people started referring to the stadium without using “Rich”. After the 25 years was up, the stadium was renamed in honor of their coach, Ralph Wilson.
Ralph Wilson Stadium held its first playoff game in the 1988 season, where the Bills beat the Houston Oilers. The Bills continued to win every playoff game at the stadium until 1996m when the Jacksonville Jaguars beat them.
