History of Raymond James Stadium
Ground was broken on the stadium on October 15, 1996. Raymond James Stadium was completed almost two years later, replacing Tampa Stadium. Opening night the Buccaneers beat the Chicago Bears 27-15.
On September 28, 2007 during the University of South Florida Bulls West Virginia game a new record was set at the stadium with the highest crowd count at 67,018. This record remained until September 29, 2012 when the South Florida Bulls played the Florida State University. The count for this game was 69,383.
The Buccaneers sold out every single one of their home games until 2010. All home games that year failed to sell out, causing them to not be broadcast on television. It wouldn’t be until week 4 in the 2011 season that they sold enough tickets for the Monday Night game to avoid a local blackout.
