History of Soldier Field
Ground was broken on the center on August 11, 1922. The stadium was completed a little over two years later with the name of Municipal Grant Park Stadium. The field serves as a memorial for all American Soldiers who have died in war. The stadiums name was changed on November 11, 1925 to Soldier Field.
Soldier Field was used for many sporting events before the Chicago Bears moved in. The Bears used to play at Wrigley Field, until September of 1971. At first the Bears were wanting to build a new stadium, but settled on a 20 year contract with Soldier Field, as long as some renovations were done.
