History of Turner Field
Ground was broken on the stadium on July 10, 1993. Turner Field was completed almost four years later on March 29, 1997. The stadium was built across the street from the old stadium the Braves used to play at. The Braves old stadium was demolished in 1997 and became additional parking for the new stadium.
At first the town of Atlanta wanted to name the stadium after Hank Aaron, but instead went with Ted Turner. They changed the street name in which Turner Field sits on to Hank Aaron Drive. The location of the stadium is 755 Hank Aaron Drive, in honor of the number of home runs Hank Aaron hit in his career.
